"Hot Shot" Chester Monte Set to Contest Lincoln Mayoral Election

City & Politics · By James Morey, Lincoln Newsroom

Chester Monte, a name few in Lincoln recognised a year ago, is fast becoming one of the most talked-about figures in the city's upcoming mayoral election. Standing on a platform of "a city that works for everyone," Monte has spent the summer touring wards from the West End to the Cathedral Quarter, promising a fresh start for a city he says has been "overlooked for too long."

His rise has been rapid. Local hustings that once drew a handful of residents are now standing room only, and Monte's message appears to be resonating well beyond his own ward.

A live televised debate between Monte and his rivals has now been scheduled for Halloween weekend, a fixture already being billed as the defining moment of the campaign.

"I want people to see exactly who I am and what I stand for," Monte told the Chronicle this week. "No scripts, no spin. Just straight answers." Whether that confidence survives contact with his opponents remains to be seen. The Chronicle will be following the race closely in the weeks ahead.
